How the hell do I communicate with reps? with Jessica Blank and AGR Founder Jen Rudolph

Every week, I field questions from wildly diverse coaching clients about how to communicate effectively with agents and managers. Every actor in the business has questions on this topic---whether you're an unrepresented actor wondering how best to follow up or make the most of a personal connection, a CAA-repped actor trying to navigate your agency's massive corporate structure, a working actor at a boutique agency wanting to track how you're being submitted and pitched. . . whether you're brand-new at your agency or you've been there ten years. . . whether you're happy where you're at or trying to figure out if it's time to make a move. Figuring out how to manage all this on your own can be tricky, and too many actors spend too much of their precious time and creative energy worrying about how to communicate with reps.  Knowledge is power, and getting real answers to these questions will help empower you to be more comfortable, collaborative, and effective within these crucial business relationships.

Masterclass with Sarah Baskin **Audition Only**

*AUDITIONS WILL BE HELD FRIDAY, APRIL 5TH FRO 4PM-7PM AT AGR*

This new class is to create a space for trained, high level actors, who want to go on a six week journey to connect more deeply with the craft they love and engage fully in their work. It’s about helping you find and identify and move through that which is cutting you off from your authentic craft. Auditioning, writing roles for yourself, and marketing are not the same as acting. All these things are creative, but what most actors love to do is act, to be fully engaged in a character, story, and experience. We might not have a current project that feels like it's fulfilling that need, or we might want a safe space to "fail" or explore deeper ways of working. This class is intended to allow people to unplug from the industry, from other people's expectations of them so that they can engage fully.

The vast majority of TV storytelling is about power in one form or another. Whether a show takes place against the backdrop of a workplace, or in a hierarchical system such as the military, the government, a law firm, or a police department, status and power are the invisible forces shaping much of the way your character relates to other characters. As a TV actor, part of your job is to know how to read sides for power relationships and how to craft your choices so that they reflect the real-life power dynamics inherent to the story you're being asked to tell.  The intricacies of power relationships-- and your character's "status" relative to the other players in the scene--should inform your choices and be part of the reality of the scene. And where your character sits on the "status" spectrum affects your choices about moments and actions, where the scene lives in your body, even your breath and eye contact.  In this class, we'll work on-camera with TV sides to learn to read scenes for power relationships, discover how those relationships affect your choices, and learn how small physical adjustments can affect your "status" in the scene.  We will also discuss how status and power fit into your individual "type"--as an actor, you'll always need to be able to play both sides of the coin, but part of your "type" does have to do with whether you're more likely to frequently get called in for higher- or lower- status characters.

Power B*tch with Jessica Blank

SOLD OUT

More and more great roles are being written for women, especially on TV.  The range we can play is expanding: we get to be military captains, political leaders, detectives, deans and CEOs; women who hold power in their families, their communities, and their workplaces. But as a coach, director and on-camera teacher, I've noticed that a lot of actresses have trouble stepping fully into these roles--and it's not because of any flaw in their acting or lack of access to their own personal power. It's because in the world of auditioning--especially as women--we're taught to make sure people like us.  And there's still a lot of voices out there that say if we fully express our power, people might not like us so much. So when we get asked to play high-status women, we unconsciously inhibit our own power, not wanting to be seen as a "bitch"--which gets in the way of fully playing the scene. This class will help you change the narrative and come into your full potential as a POWER B*TCH

Masterclass with Sarah Baskin **Audition Only**

Masterclass with Sarah Baskin **Audition Only**

SOLD OUT!

Holy Sh*t it's Pilot Season with Jessica Blank and AGR Founder Jen Rudolph

"Pilot season." It's one of the most mythologized times in our business for actors--the two months out of the year when supposedly those Series Regular roles are the most accessible, when there's ten times the TV work because networks are casting way more shows than will ever make it on the air, where audition volume is the highest and everything is up for grabs.  Many actors center a year's worth of expectation and emotional energy on these two months, agonizing over whether to go to LA, how to communicate with their reps during this crazy time, whether they're getting enough volume, how to know if they're getting in for everything that's available, what to do if they're unrepresented, and whether it's possible to keep building with CDs during the busiest time of the year.
