Week 28 - Fierce Trust

We have been exploring BIG MAGIC by Elizabeth Gilbert. Ready for some of the biggest magic?

We all know the quote “what would you do if you knew you could not fail?” Liz challenges us, “what would you do if you knew you might fail?”

And I’m going here....

“What would you do if you knew you would fail over and over... and failing was none of your business?”

It is EASY to trust in what we can predict.
It is easy to gamble on a game when you know the cards and your hand is statistically better than your opponents.

The FIERCE TRUST comes when you put yourself, your work and your heart out there knowing you could, probably will and feel like you will break if you DO fail.

Now we are living.

Osho says the only safe thing is a corpse.
Yet we spend our lives and creative living trying to make one safe move after another. We expect big magic to come out of safety.

What about leap and the net shall appear?
What about leap...you don’t need a God-damn net, you have wings silly....

“As we all know deep in our hearts, there is no guarantee of success in creative realms. Not for you, not for me, not for anyone. Not now, not ever.

Will you put forth your work anyhow?

Fierce trust demands that you put forth the work anyhow, because fierce trust knows that the outcome does not matter.”

What if you no longer had a requirement based relationship with creativity? What then?
What would you dare to create, and BE now?
Probably everything you came here to be.

Everything the world is waiting for.

“You are worthy, dear one, regardless of the outcome. You will keep making your work, regardless of the outcome. You will keep sharing your work, regardless of the outcome.

You were born to create, regardless of the outcome. You will never lose trust in the creative process, even when you don’t understand the outcome.”

What is the alternative, Liz asks of us. What are you going to do instead? Watch TV?
Watch the world go by?

Get to the end having been a Facebook spectator of the greatest miracle there is? BEING ALIVE

Try the regressive WHY game....

I want to be a successful creator....why?
keep going...
for every answer you give, just ask why at the end.... keep going...
keep asking why....

At some point you will land on the truth.
And the truth will sound something like this...

Because it makes me happy. Because it is who I am. Because it is why I am here.

Isn’t that reason enough to do something?
Isn’t the doing of the thing answering the very question and call of your entire existence?
What more do you want? Need?

You get the privilege of coming to this planet and moving some pieces around, and coming up with ideas, and playing some other people, all for the purpose of BEING YOURSELF.

What a high honor.
I would gladly put my trust in that.
