Introduction - The Creating Living for Artists Series

We are diving right in. The big guns. The one and only Elizabeth Gilbert.
I recently met Liz — I only met her once, can I be so bold to call her Liz???

F*#ck it. I’ll just got for it.

Liz is everything you imagine and hope she would be. What strikes me most is how someone so slight in appearance can hold so big a presence. She quietly takes the space of a giant while sweetly smiling and listening intently to every word being passed in the conversation. She wrote the book on Big Magic, but truly, she is the Big Magic.

So we are going on a little book club adventure with Liz, our new best friend.

Doing this book club with you all has been nagging at me for months. And today, while sitting in central park I pulled out my copy and turned to the opening pages which read:

This one’s for you Rayya

Followed by:

Q: What is creativity?
A: The relationship between a human being and the mysteries of inspiration

Followed by in big old letters.... Courage

For those of you who don't know much about Liz or her story these three pages are more profound now then she could have ever imagined when first writing this book. Liz in the years after this book was released fell in love with her best friend Rayya. She declared her love publicly. Rayya was very ill. Recently, Rayya passed on.

The muses speaking through Liz to create this book asked her what it was to be creative. She answered it was to have a relationship with the mystery, followed by courage — which we can all assume is exactly what she is living now, in her own life. Lady friend is definitely walking her talk.

Living a creative life is about being COURAGEOUS. It is about honoring the PROCESS above the reward. It is about being so in love with inspiration and the magic of life that it takes your breath away.

What it is NOT, is a guarantee for any level of success, fame or cash flow, (so if that is what you came for please feel free to know this book club isn’t for you.) Living creatively is about opening our hearts all the way. Even when they will probably break

beyond compare. And we do this, so we can be in relationship with the great mystery, the Muse, the Source of all, and it takes courage and consistency.

This book club is meant to be an ongoing conversation between us and our creative source. I call it the “Muse.” You can call it your “soul”, your “calling, “your inner tiny dancer.” She/he/they are yours. They want to be in relationship with you. And it takes something to not only begin the conversation but to stay in the conversation, so we empower the process by doing it together.

I am so excited for you to join me on this path.
This path of love. Of curiosity. Of utter and complete free fall. This path that you were designed for.
That you actually do have the courage for.
That as much as you think you want it.... it wants you more.

Welcome to the first day of your Big Magic. I hope you already feel the butterflies.

To kick off — try this week writing a letter. Embodying your Creativity or the Creative Spark. Imagine it is writing to you, through you. See what it wants you to know...
