Scene Dating is a fun, fast, and furious, unfiltered, informal scene class, with a focus on social interaction, and instinctual response to text.
Based on the notion of speed dating, actors are given series of numbered envelopes on arrival. Actors then set out to find their 'blind acting date', the person with the envelope with the corresponding number. When they have found their match, they meet & greet, and cold read the scene that is enclosed in their first envelope. After 5-7 minutes the 'Scene Dating' Bell rings, and the actors move quickly to find the person that corresponds with their next numbered envelope.
This process continues until all the 'Scene Daters' have met each other, shared some personal stories, and read their secret scenes. Once everyone has met and read, they take a seat, the coordinator then pulls random matching envelopes and those pairs 'perform' their scene for the class. Notes and adjustments are given.
The idea of 'Scene Dating' is for actors to get fast and furious, raw, unbridled, brave, fierce and instinctual, and to unleash their instincts on text, with multiple new scene partners in an environment free of judgement and full of passion and joy for the craft of acting.
