Class Format
"Pilot season." It's one of the most mythologized times in our business for actors--the two months out of the year when supposedly those Series Regular roles are the most accessible, when there's ten times the TV work because networks are casting way more shows than will ever make it on the air, where audition volume is the highest and everything is up for grabs.  Many actors center a year's worth of expectation and emotional energy on these two months, agonizing over whether to go to LA, how to communicate with their reps during this crazy time, whether they're getting enough volume, how to know if they're getting in for everything that's available, what to do if they're unrepresented, and whether it's possible to keep building with CDs during the busiest time of the year.

Knowledge is power, and the first thing to arm yourself with is an understanding of how pilot season actually works from the other side of the table.  Do you know how a new pilot gets picked up, who's making the decisions, what the different roles of the network, the studio, and the producers are, what producers are looking for in casting, how offers work vs. auditions (hint: they're often happening all at the same time) and how the test process works? In this class, we'll break down what's really happening during pilot season, how the networks operate, who's making the decisions, how the relationships between LA and NY casting directors operate on pilots, the testing process, and more. The "rules" of the business during pilot season are different than at other times of year, and once you have an understanding of how the process really works, you'll understand why--and you'll be armed with the kind of knowledge that will make you a more attractive collaborator and help free you from your own anxieties and neuroses so your work can shine. This class will dispel the myths and mysteries around pilot season, answer all your questions about how the business operates during this time of year (from representatives to studios to CDs), address communication etiquette with agents, managers and casting directors, and help you design the pilot seasonstrategy that works best for wherever you are currently at in the business.
