What an amazing experience at the AGR Turning Pro class. I have had a career consultation with Jen Rudolph and private coaching with Natalie Roy, so when I saw the opportunity to work with both I jumped at it. I was NOT disappointed. Working on sides hand-selected by Jen herself, Natalie guided myself and the other students through our scenes, while Jen provided professional feedback, not once, but numerous times. Every student arrived at an amazing place in their final performance, but it was the journey of how Natalie brought us to that point that was the real payoff. Natalie insightfully used varying techniques for each actor to find the perfect balance of emotion, physicality, and realism to take us, and the scene, to places we didn't think were possible. And it was just downright FUN! - AGRtist DONAVAN DARIUS
I had the opportunity to make the "TURNING PRO: Mastering The Audition: From audition, to callback, to on set" class w/ Jen Rudolph & Natalie Roy and I can’t say enough good things about it. I absolutely loved it! It was informative and fun (and too be honest, terrifying at times) and *any* actor who wants to get a better understanding of the audition to set process, build their confidence, or to sharpen their skills should be taking this class next time it rolls around. I can't really speak to the other ways this class has been presented in the past (Over 3 weeks, over a weekend, etc...) but the one day bootcamp style really drove home, for me, a lot of the points that Natalie and Jen were trying to make about how hectic the process can be. I found the pressure to be extremely invaluable! I think one of the coolest things about the class was that, while it was intense as hell, it was truly a safe space. As someone who suffers from sometimes crippling self-doubt, I find myself replaying things after the fact over and over and over wishing I would have done things differently. Whether it be an audition, a class, a performance, a stunt, or whatever, I constantly think to myself "I should have made a different choice" or "I wish I would have said this or that differently"... for the first time I left a class excitedly, not dejectedly, thinking about what other possibilities there were and saying to myself "I *could* have made a different choice here or there."It's a small, but important, difference in mindset that I am going to try and carry with me from now on! Add that to the high level of talent in the room, and the huge variety of character types and scenes being worked on and you have something that is well worth the time and money (and the long drive from Washington D.C.!) I have to be honest, I think I got more out of watching everyone else work and get put through the process than I did in my own scenes! Anyway, there's a lot more I could say, but I don't want to ruin the magic. Sign up for this class next chance you get, you will not be disappointed... I can guarantee I will be back for a second round at it! - AGRtist Jeff Mueller
Speaking with first-hand experience from booking several episodic co-star roles and being on set, I can tell you this: Natalie and Jen nailed it. The entire process was educational, eye opening, and also extremely fun. The way they presented the class is pretty much the way the process happens. I'm so happy I got to work with so many talented people during these past 3 weeks. I would recommend this class to anyone. Run, don't walk to book it! - AGRtist STEPHEN TENNER
By now, many of you have mastered the audition process from all the excellent classes available, but how do you feel about being ready to do your work on set? It is a whole different beast! I cannot give enough praise to Natalie Roy and Jen Rudolph for their new, innovative, "Mastering the Audition Class." (Which I would aptly name, "Audition, Callback and Get Set Go Class!") Natalie brings real experience to the class and you know that you are learning from someone who has "been there, done that"! She is currently a busy, successful working actress on tv, film and commercials and her information is very relevant for today’s market. She is sincerely humble about her success and has a genuine, kind heart. Her teaching style is so hands on, fun, and she gives 110% to everyone and every minute of the class. She is one talented lady! Jen Rudolph takes an honest and sincere interest in all the actors she works with. I believe that she has a rare gift and knows how to bring the best out in everyone. She gives excellent, thoughtful critique and genuine, kind compliments, when due. She is a lot of fun to be around. A real cool lady!
In this class, we laughed, we cried, were shocked and wowed, and all felt a sense of camaraderie! The camaraderie is one of the trademarks of the Actors Green Room. I am constantly reminded and amazed at how brave, and how kind of insane, it is what we actors do! It is not for the faint at heart! But it sure does help having this very supportive community at AGR, led by Jen and her wonderful team! - AGRtist SANDRA LUCAS
This class is GENIUS—!! They DO NOT teach you this in school or any classes besides this one created by Jen and Natalie. There is an incredible about of “inside information” that happens on set that is never discussed unless you’ve been there—Seeing that this business has no room for errors—how are you supposed to know what the environment is and how to act and what is expected from you your first time? Maybe you think because you went to the best acting school or studied with the greats, that you are good to go....However, there is another side that’s insanely important and that’s being a professional on set. This class is a trial and error run to get the kinks out and get ready for the big leagues! I know I sound possibly tough, but this isn’t a paid announcement, just a friendly reminder to ALL actors who haven’t been on set or haven’t been on set enough to take this class. I’m in the class as acting SCRIPT SUPERVISOR to help all of you from my on set experiences! Love to all! - AGRtist MELISSA JACKSON
