"You have a great voice!" But how do you turn it into a career?
Welcome to AGR's 4 Week Voice Over Summer Camp! We'll help you find your "voice" for narratives and commercials and give you the training you need to start meeting industry, getting auditions, and booking jobs.
Dates: Sundays July 13th, 20th, 27th, & August 3rd 2014
Capacity: Limited to 8 actors only!
Location: AGR, 15 West 28th Street, 9th Floor, NYC 10001
This is a four week class to build voice over technique. There is no prior experience necessary, just the desire to learn and play. So much of voice over comes down to "listening to your gut" and "staying our of your head." A good friend of AGR is the casting guru Andy Roth who calls the four different kinds of voice over “The Cusp”: Caring, Upbeat, Snarky and Professional.
Each week we will deal with one of the disciplines of The Cusp. Learning the four different kinds of “copy” is only part of the job. So here is how the month will evolve:
The basics. How does the voice over world work? How do you get involved? What do you need to know? What are the different disciplines? How do you set up at home? There will be a question and answer period and then we’ll get to work on the C in “The Cusp”: Caring
We will practice cold reading and review your audition technique. The way you enter and leave the room is as important as the audition you do! There will be drills to “stay in the now” and not over think what you “should” do or what the casting director/client wants. We will also deal with the physicalization of your voice work. How much do you actually have to “do with your voice” and still be natural. And we will work on the U in “The Cusp”: Upbeat.
How do you take apart a piece of copy? How do you incorporate yourself into the copy? We will talk about punctuation as a suggestion so you stop letting it dictate your read. And we will work on the S in “The Cusp”: Snarky.
Putting it all together. We will review everything we’ve learned so far and field any new questions that crop up from all the work. And we will work on the P in “The Cusp”: Professional.
Ready to play?
Although not a pre-requisite for our VoiceOver Night, the 4-Week VO Summer Camp will help you approach the next one with clarity and focus. You'll know that you're bringing your best work to the table, delivering your strongest performance, and maximizing your time with the industry in attendance.
Whether you are brand new to this business or getting back in the game, our 4-Week VO Summer Camp is just what you need to take on the world of voice over. So what are you waiting for? Let's hear what you've got!
