Many have dubbed me the Marcus Lemonis (from CNBC’s “The Profit”) of the acting business. In the business world, Marcus takes failing small businesses and turns them around to success in record time. He finds out what they are doing right and what they are doing wrong, gives them a complete operational overhaul, and low and behold, they start generating profit and becoming successful. I do the same thing for actors struggling to break into the film and television business. I teach them how to turn their careers around by turning them into educated marketing machines. Marcus judges every business on the "People, Process, Product" Principle. He dissects who he is working with and scans every part of the professional and emotional infrastructure of the business and person/people he is helping. I do the same thing with those who decide to enlist my help.
It's so easy to point the finger elsewhere. You are frustrated. You have been trying to book work but no one is hiring you. The phone doesn't ring. You are spinning your wheels, putting yourself out there and you despise the way the business works. At this point, emotions take over and you start approaching life and your career from a defensive/accusatory place. You begin to create the very situations that you want to so desperately want to avoid deep down. You create them because of the Law of Attraction.
"The Law of Attraction is the name given to the term that 'like attracts like' and that by focusing on positive or negative thoughts, one can bring about positive or negative results." - Wikipedia
How do you break the cycle? By taking control of your thoughts and your actions. By looking within and taking responsibility for the reality in which you have created. By asking for help. This is when I implement the Peopleprinciple. I ask "What led you to this point? How do you FEEL?" Chances are that you feel blocked in some way and have a hidden emotional attachment to self-sabotage.
I then ask "What is your Process?" What have you been doing? Chances are you have not been going about your career in an optimal way. Often times, people are just misinformed or unwilling to accept how the business works and what they need to do to master it.
Next, it's "Whats your Product? Do you know what you're selling? Do you know what portal you need to personally walk through to break in to the industry? Do you know how it is you need to do so? Do you know how to market yourself optimally?" Up until this point, you haven't...but once I meet with you...you do.
Meet AGR'r Michael Rosete
Michael came to see me and was stuck. He was using the headshot on the left when he reinvented himself and looked completely different. He was getting called in for Film/TV roles but the roles were not a match. His website was in complete disarray. Michael was not in sync one bit. We sat down for a Career Consultation and this would be the beginning of his career.
The first thing I did was recommend that he see Jordan Matter for new headshots ASAP. Michael had been working out quite a bit and went from being one extreme to the other in terms of "type." Next, I told him what to do to fix up his website. It needed to be clear, easy to navigate and mobile-friendly. We discussed his "type" and made it very specific. This would be the way he would market himself to the industry. Michael would intuit what the casting director would be thinking when he walked into the room and deliver it effortlessly and with skill. I gave him multiple sides that highlighted his "type" and a list of casting directors to work with and learn from. Things began to fall into place. Michael booked a role on FOX's GOTHAM...on the list. He got called in for NBC's CHICAGO P.D....a role perfect for his type. Michael just booked two out of three projects he was called in for by Barden/Schnee Casting...also on the list.
Michael found the missing piece to his puzzle and is on his way.
