I have 3 JUST IN success stories I want to share with you that answer your most burning question..."how do I become a working actor?"
Here's the thing:
You can have all the training in the world (and it's important to be in a Scene Study class every week) but if no one knows you it's moot. You can try to send mailings (or call which I do NOT recommend) to agents, managers and casting directors but without having relationships with them, it's moot. You can try to secure representation but without having credits and/or having a spreadsheet of casting directors who know and love you, it's moot. You can attend workshops and fine tune your audition technique and get in the room with casting directors but without bringing your A Game, marketing yourself optimally and being "relevant" to what's casting now...it's moot. Actors come to me all the time distressed that they aren't getting noticed or that "it's not working." My question is always..."are you truly doing everything you can, using every tool made available to you and are you memorable?" The answer is usually no. In a business where over 2,000 actors are vying for each and every role (from Co-Star to Guest Star etc), why would you think that doing anything LESS THAN stellar would be acceptable? Come on :) You are in control of WAY more than you think. If you're not getting results, I ask you, are you truly following the formula that I have laid out that works? Are you memorable? Relevant? Staying in the know? Utilizing every tool made available to you? Getting in front /staying in front of the industry? If any of these things are not happening...it's time to regroup and re-strategize. Yes, the odds are not in your favor. But...like being at a poker table, you can control a lot of the game and seize opportunities and make the odds work for you.
You see AGR'rs...in business it's all about location. In YOUR business it's all about the scene and how memorable and relevant you are. It's all about knowledge and educating yourself via the tools made available to you. This is done through studying, networking, learning, observing, and constantly reinventing. Figuring it out until it's right. It's about realizing and digesting that you HAVE to take this seriously and invest in yourselves in every possible way. No one is going to just hand you opportunities. No one owes you jobs because you went to NYU or Juilliard. This is a business and must be treated as such. Realize that and your game will change.
It's episodic season. 45 episodics are casting or about to start casting. What are you waiting for? CD's are perusing AGR Online. Are you on there? CD's and top coaches are giving incredible advice and information that goes beyond the scope of what you can learn anywhere else. Are you taking advantage of this on AGR Online which costs the same as Netflix. Are you staying in the know and hearing every week WHO is casting WHAT? Are you excited about what could happen for you if you get in gear?
I am. :)
