“The fast track to freeing up your work.”
Dates/Times: Saturday, March 4th 2PM-7PM and
Sunday, March 5th 12PM-5PM
Capacity: 10 students total
Location: AGR, 15 West 28th Street, 9th Floor, NYC 10001
Ages: 16 and up
Do you ever leave an audition or watch yourself on camera and feel like there is a "special spark" missing? Do you ever feel like you're spending the entire scene inside of your head? Do you ever feel disconnected from the reason you began acting in the first place?
We all crave it - that feeling of being so "in the zone" that we're not thinking, we're just in it. Some call it living in the moment, spontaneity, or freedom in the work - and this weekend intensive is designed to give you that experience.
You will leave with an understanding of what is getting in your way of being deeply connected to your work and some tools to move through it. You will get out of your head and into your body. You will reconnect with a sense of playfulness. All of this will guide you in the direction of honest, personal, authentic work.
Story vs. Monologues
- We will start by exploring your authentic communication skills by comparing a 1-2 minute prepared monologue with a 1-2 minute personal story. Then we'll workshop each person's monologue until they are accessing the same sense of truth as when they're sharing a story from their own life.
Scene Work - Cold Reads (theatre scenes)
- Build a new foundation in your work by learning how and why cold reads can actually awaken the muscle of listening and allow for more spontaneity in your work.
In the morning, we will focus on TV/Film sides and experiment with several different playful exercises to get you out of your analytical head and into the moment.
The day will end by returning to the theatre scenes from Saturday and will learn how to blend analyzing a scene with an authentic performance in the moment.
Students must prepare a 1-2 minute prepared monologue with a 1-2 minute personal story.
You may cancel and receive credit up to 7 days before the start date of the class. However, within 7 days of the start date of the class, no credit will be issued. Due to the nature and structure of this class, you will not receive credit or be able to make up any portion of this class for any reason if you cancel or miss a class after the start date.

"Class was intense and great and beautiful and emotional for all involved! Sarah has an insane gift for identifying exactly how you are blocking yourself, holding yourself back, getting in your own way, and she is relentless in getting you past/over/under/through and/or around it. We had a remarkable group of people at all levels of acting experience, but all focused and dedicated and equally invested in everyone else’s journey, so we were all able to learn from each other as well as from Sarah’s genius guidance, and were all able to witness and support one another. It was great! I want it not to be over, so that would be nice, but on the other hand I think the concentrated immersion brought different gifts." - Carol Jacobanis
"Best money I've ever spent on an acting class. I have already recommended Sarah's class to multiple people. It naturally comes up in conversation because it was transformative for my life. Sarah is so passionate about her craft and her students that every class felt super valuable. She was so dedicated to her students that our class ran over every week, because she truly cares about each individual student/human. I am currently on the wait list for Sarah's advance class, and I can't wait until a spot opens up!" - Tucker Rose
“Sarah pinpoints what may be is blocking you from realizing your potential as an actor. She knows the exact ingredient for YOU to add to bring out your individual greatness and effortlessly creates a fun caring environment where everyone fully commits to bringing that ingredient to their scene. The result is like taking dynamite to that pre-existing block. Your experience will foster your own realization of what it specifically is about you that is both unique in your work and a valuable commodity. It’s magic for actors at every level of experience and rejuvenating for those losing faith in their pursuits. Sarah’s class will be the most meaningful gift you’ve ever given yourself.” - Teri Merry
“Sarah is an incredible teacher. Sometimes the pressure to be a "good actor" gets me stuck in my head and I struggle, but she encouraged me to be playful and honest in my work, reminding me what I loved about acting in the first place. Sarah finds ways to help you bring your true self to your character. She's refreshingly down-to-earth and honest, and she's shockingly good at identifying what's holding you back from being the best actor you can be. Her class was an amazing experience and I would recommend her to anyone looking to become not only a better actor, but a happier human being.” - Devin Fuller
"I have been taking Sarah Baskin's class at The Actor's Green Room for the past year, and it has changed my acting life! Well, more accurately, it has infused my acting with organic life. When I first started working with Sarah I was feeling like my work was a bit "by the book". Every time I was going on stage or in front of the camera I had a plan, and I was going to stick to that plan to make that performance "good". I had a naturalistic way about me, which was my saving grace, but there was no room for the spontaneous. Simply put, Sarah has helped me find my spontaneity and my authenticity, which is the life's blood of any good acting and is what draws people in and allows you to connect with them. I have learned to embrace the unexpected, to be present, to listen, to be affected by what I hear, and to follow my impulses without judgment. One of the things I absolutely love about Sarah is that she has a way of looking through your individual acting bad habits and she always has an adjustment or an exercise that will strip you of that and drop you right into where you need to be so that you can experience it. It is one thing to be able tell someone where they need to be... it is quite another to be able to get people where they need to be so that they can experience what it feels like to be there and incorporate that into their art. Sarah is a master of the latter. She'll get you out of that controlling left brain and into that creative and intuitive right brain which is where true creation comes from... and next thing you know, you are in the flow of things and expressing your experience honestly. Do yourself a favor... take this class! It will make you a better actor!! For me it went even deeper than that... it has made me a more present, happier and better person." - Patrick Michael Valley
"Sarah is quite simply a Godsend. Since I started studying with her, my confidence has skyrocketed and I feel like I’ve regained the joy in acting I had when I was a child. She’s helped me in so, so many ways. She’s helped me to be more present and open, more able to follow my impulses in the moment, to live truthfully and authentically within the circumstances of the text. She has the unique ability to zone in on each individual’s particular blocks and strengths, and the result is always transformative! I’ve never seen anything like it and I’ve never experienced anything like it. She is the most gifted teacher I’ve ever worked with and I will be forever grateful to her for the impact she has had on my work. If you ever have the chance to study with Sarah, don’t walk, run! You will not regret it. I promise." - Stephanie Weppler
"Hi there! I had posted in Immersion, after I took the first half of one of the most incredible workshops I have ever taken. I decided to post about Sarah Baskin's Level One Weekend class here, since some of you are not yet on that site. I had high expectations, as I had heard wonderful comments about her class without any specifics...and now I understand. It is almost impossible to get across in words the energy, enthusiasm, knowledge and care that simply oozes from Sarah with each person, as well as the class as a whole. She brings out something new and unexpected in each actor, using so many different techniques, while validating your individual talents. I strongly encourage you to take this class no matter where you believe yourself to be on your path." - Dianne Rothenberg
"Just wanted to thank you so much for the intensive this past weekend. I had a few auditions and Casting Director intensives this week and remembering what we did in class, this week could possibly be my best week of acting yet. I'm ecstatic! I never could have done it without you! Thanks so much!" - MJ Roche
