Martin Bentsen has spoken numerous times at New York University, has run educational seminars at Actor's Connection on branding and marketing strategies for performers, and has written and published an informational book called Get Cast, which focuses on marketing tactics actors can use to find more consistent work. He is a member of both the National Association of Sales Professionals and Sales & Marketing Executives International, two highly acclaimed marketing organizations in the United States.
Martin graduated in 2011 with honors from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts with a focus on directing. In 2010, he founded City Headshots®, which, according to Yelp, is ranked the top headshot studio in all of New York. As of 2017, City Headshots employs seven people and has locations in New York, Denver, and Philadelphia. Some of City Headshots’ repeat clients include well known companies such as LinkedIn Corp and American Express, and some of its photos have been featured in The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal.
As a filmmaker and entrepreneur who has written four features, produced and cast two of them, and grown a company from zero to over 150 headshot clients per month, Martin not only understands the intricacies of marketing and finding an audience, but also what it takes for actors to successfully navigate the casting world while making themselves memorable.
Martin’s long term goal is to permanently end the cliche of The Starving Artist.
Phae Lewis is a successful NYC actress who got her start in ballet. She began her ballet career in 1996, when she was just six years old. Her ballet quickly led to an interest in other dance, including tap, pointe, professional choreography, jazz, and lyrical. Of course, where would all this dancing lead her to but, you guessed it, acting.
In 2008, Phae joined Hunter College to study performance and stage acting. After two years of intense studies and completing required courses, she transitioned to The New York Film Academy to refocus on the film and screen acting world. She graduated in 2011 and then spent the next few years refining her craft with Meisner Technique, Shakespeare, On-Camera Scene Study, and numerous other tools. During that time, she had the opportunity to work with big names in the industry such as Isaac Byrne, James Price, Bela Gruska, Kathy Curtiss, Michael Liaison, and others.
Phae met Martin Bentsen during a headshot session back in May of 2016, where she heard of the small Get Cast™ classes he was running at the time. After completing the course, she gained an appreciation of the power of social media and the ability to connect with a community online, and has since used this passion to find and connect with others as equally interested in script analysis, cold reads, and drama. Eventually taking this a step further, and with the belief that actors truly needed a program where they could go to source top quality information without any fluff, she teamed up with Martin Bentsen to begin teaching actors how to market themselves.
